The two upstairs queen rooms in the inn have a queen bed and a private bath, while the cottage accommodations include two bedrooms that share a full bath with a corner shower and vintage footed tub, as well as a half bath in the laundry room. One bedroom has a king bed, the second bedroom has a queen bed. There is a queen sofa bed in the living room, too. The living area has a large screen smart TV where guests use their Netflix and other subscriptions, and the fully furnished kitchen has new appliances. Neither smoking nor pets are allowed at either the inn or the cottage. Rates are $79 per night plus taxes in the inn and $169 plus taxes for the two-bedroom guest cottage that will sleep up to seven guests.
Our accommodations are so cozy, with the Inn having two large open areas for guests' relaxation with gas log fireplaces.

We are located 1/2 block off Hwy. 11E in New Market, a short 3 mile drive to restaurants and stores in nearby Jefferson City. Knoxville is just 20 minutes west while Morristown is 20 minutes east. The old-fashioned downtown of Dandridge, home to the Scotts Irish Festival, and Rutledge, home to the Tomato Festival, are also 20 minutes away. Lost Creek Golf course is less than two miles away, with many other courses being within a 20 minute drive.
The Minnis House is named for the Minnis family who owned the house from 1910-1967. The patriarch of the family came to New Market before the Civil War to pastor the local Presbyterian Church. The family built and operated a large general store here from 1865-1965, The Minnis Store (pronounced Menace).
The town of New Market was once home to Frances Hodgson Burnett, famous author of The Secret Garden, Little Lord Fauntleroy, and The Little Princess (Sarah Crewe). She lived a couple of blocks from The Minnis House after moving from England to America as a teenager in 1865. Her mother's brother, living in nearby Knoxville, sent for the family to come to America by ship. While living here, Frances met her future husband, Dr. Swan Burnett. She went on to write many great novels later in life. While she lived here as a teenager, tradition tells us she picked berries from behind her house and sold them in order to purchase paper and pencils that she used to write short stories. She also taught music lessons and held school classes in their little cabin for local children. Later, she mailed stories to New York, where they were published in magazines. Frances would have walked past the Minnis House on her way to the Minnis Store to purchase supplies. Although her home is not open to the public, there is a historic marker in the yard, which is located next to Houston's Mineral Well, a longtime New Market landmark. You can find more information about the well at www.houstonsmineralwater.com. New Market is also well known for the tragic New Market Train Wreck of 1904.
We invite you to view photos of our inn and give us a call to see how we can meet your lodging needs. We look forward to making your stay pleasant and relaxing. Our guests enjoy plenty of privacy while watching television in one of our two downstairs common areas, reading books from our library, playing the piano, or rocking on the front porch under the ceiling fans. Having lived in this area all of our lives, we are happy to help our guests find things to do and places to see according to their interests. We're looking forward to visiting with y'all soon!
